Air Force Village is Now Blue Skies of Texas
After 50 years of serving retired military officers and their families, Air Force Village in 2014 expanded its eligibility to include all former military personnel as well as seniors without a military background. As part of the transition, the two campuses located in San Antonio are now known as Blue Skies of Texas East and Blue Skies of Texas West.
The name Blue Skies is an ode to the phrase of airmen’s best wishes, “blue skies and tailwinds,” and reflects the idea that blue skies and unlimited possibilities are ahead as the community continues to grow.
Expanded Eligibility. Continued Mission.
In November 2013, the Air Force Village Board of Directors approved opening residency to non-military retired professionals in an effort to modernize the community and secure its future as a leader in senior living. Blue Skies of Texas continues the tradition of Air Force Village through the mission of improving seniors’ lives by providing quality retirement living with an emphasis on individual wellbeing.
Air Force Village’s first campus opened in 1970, with contributions from Air Force Officers’ Wives’ Clubs from around the world. Seventeen years later, the second campus opened seven miles away. Blue Skies of Texas East and West are now home to more than 1,000 seniors, who hail from all over the country and from all walks of life.
Today, you’ll find those members of the community engaging in myriad activities and pursuing their best lives in a tight-knit, yet uniquely welcoming, environment. Among the Blue Skies population are bikers, birders, changemakers and even lovebirds who have met and married since moving in.
The Blue Skies of Texas neighborhoods include a variety of living options, many of them recently updated or renovated. Floor plans range from well-designed apartment homes to expansive single-family homes and villas. This variety makes the community suitable for just about any older adult, and the Blue Skies consistently ranks as one of the best values in senior living nationwide.
