Featured Team Member: Wendy Carpenter, Executive Director of Health Care Operations

“Incredible,” “awesome,” “kind,” “brilliant,” “…so sweet” are the words I picked out of the many notes and letters I have in files about Wendy Carpenter, our Executive Director of Health Care Operations. Just over 20 years ago, Wendy loaded up the car and navigated her way from upstate New York to the great nation of Texas. Our residents and generations of families are happy she did! Today, the young floor nurse from the long since closed “Village I Health Care Center” is, nationally, one of the most respected innovators and leaders in the senior living health care world. Why? Let’s look at what the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) says: The Mission at Blue Skies of Texas East and The Vista at Blue Skies of Texas West are rated “5-Star.” This means ours are 2 of only 4 skilled-nursing facilities out of the 98 in San Antonio that have earned this coveted rating. That and other formal recognition for assisted living and hospice communities can largely be attributed to the programs, partnerships, and sky-high standards that Wendy and her team have implemented. From founding the Simulation Lab for nurse training — making Blue Skies of Texas one of the first communities in the nation to do so — to fostering a partnership with Nix Health, one of San Antonio’s premier hospital systems, Wendy and her staff continually ensure our residents receive the best available care each and every day. It is no accident Wendy recently was named Chair of the Texas LeadingAge Educational Institute on Aging (EIA). From our residents enjoying a healthy and fully independent lifestyle to those in assisted living, skilled nursing, or memory care, Quality and Value reigns. Thanks to Wendy Carpenter,  “Excellence in All We Do” is more than just a sign on the wall at Blue Skies of Texas. – Lt. General Chip Utterback, President and CEO
