Select Rehabilitation Continence Care News Letter
By: Occupational Therapist, Ryan Blue OTR
Currently: I am pleased to inform every one of the success seen with the Continence Care Program thus far with over 50 residents from the Independent Living Towers and surrounding community helped and counting! The numbers are in…the average resident is seeing 85% or greater improvement in their symptoms with many seeing full resolution. This program works!
What’s Involved: This program utilizes safe, non-invasive methods to treat the symptoms at its source through: bladder retraining, pelvic floor exercises, education on diet, and the use of PENS Therapy which is a non-invasive mild electrical stimulation to promote a lifestyle of urinary continence and quality of life.
Who’s Affected: More than 13 million Americans are affected by urinary incontinence each year, with 85% being women, 40% of men and 50% being from the senior citizen population. Unfortunately, most do not seek help because they assume it is a “normal part of aging”. This is a Myth! Safe and successful treatment exists. Bladder Control problems can be successfully treated in >80% of those dealing with these issues and studies show on average a reduction in leakage of 70-75% of those that receive treatment.
Do you experience the following:
- Sudden strong urges to urinate?
- Leakage when you cough, sneeze, or laugh?
- Do you have difficulty reaching the bathroom in time, or have to take 2 or more trips to the bathroom during the night?
- Do you have difficulty controlling the time or place to urinate? If any of these statements apply to you, you stand to benefit from our intervention program!
Goal of Program: This program is intended to help men and women of the adult age group regain their quality of life through the reduction, and often elimination of their urinary incontinence issues weather this be through getting more sleep through the night, having to make fewer trips to the bathroom, or just simply no longer having to rely on absorbent pads.
Take control! It is possible to live your life without having to rely on absorbent products, to get a full nights sleep, and to life a continence PRO lifestyle. I want to reiterate that there is help! Safe and effective treatment exists in easy to follow, non-invasive methods delivered by your friendly neighborhood Occupational Therapy team.
