COVID 19 Update #8 – April 27, 2020
San Antonio/Bexar County reported 1,254 confirmed cases of COVID 19 with 43 deaths as of April 26. The Stay Home, Work Safe order remains in place while Gov. Abbott announces a tiered approach to re-open Texas economy gradually, based on the rate of spread of Covid 19. Blue Skies of Texas is paying close attention to the current situation in our community, city and state as we develop plans to slowly resume activities and services, in a safe and prudent manner, with best practice protocols to protect our residents and staff.
Gov Abbott is paying close attention to testing capacity. In San Antonio, there are several testing options available, but testing is reserved for individuals who are symptomatic, meaning they are exhibiting signs or symptoms of COVID 19 which include a fever, cough and possibly, shortness of breath. Newly added symptoms now include chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat and loss of taste or smell. Testing no longer requires a physician’s order and can be scheduled at The Freeman Coliseum drive through testing site, any Texas Med Clinic or your primary care providers office if they offer testing. Results are typically available within 2 to 5 days, depending on testing site. Regardless of negative results, individuals who are exhibiting specific symptoms may still be required to remain under quarantine for a set number of days based on symptoms and days since onset of illness. Blue Skies of Texas will follow the CDC and SA Metro Health guidance in these situations.
Individuals at Blue Skies of Texas, staff and residents, with signs or symptoms are placed on quarantine and closely monitored. Testing is arranged and close contact with local health officials is maintained throughout the process. To date, 15 residents and staff combined have been tested with no confirmed cases at this time. Should a resident or staff member test positive for COVID 19, Blue Skies of Texas will immediately notify the community through a variety of means with priority notification based on a range of circumstances (e.g. COVID 19 in a licensed health care facility will prioritize notification for residents and staff in the facility and family members).
