Music and Memory Program Summary-Vista

Music and Memory is a non-profit organization that brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm through digital music technology ( using I-pods with personalized music play lists) ,  improving their quality of life. Information about their program can be found at: https://musicandmemory.org

The Vista embraced this program and our residents love it. We work with family members, dedicated IL Resident Volunteers, and our Activity Director to help create individual music play lists for our residents based on their favorite tunes that bring back feelings of positive happy times.

Many of our residents have exhibited an increase in relaxation, decrease in agitation, lasting several hours post sessions which in turn, has promoted better sleep at night, and helped to decrease the use of psychotropic medications.  In addition, this program has positively affected the lives of our Independent Living resident Volunteers, one of which is very active in our weekly program to celebrate Music with the residents here, has shared how the program has helped him personally with his memory.

The Vista’s Music and Memory program has been recognized by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHSC) for collaboration with the John Jay High School Students in initiating and sustaining the programming.  In addition, the program was featured on Great Day SA with KENS 5 TV highlighting the benefits for both residents and Volunteers.
